Creating your Freshdesk portal account

To submit your non-HESA Volume Measure data, you will need to create an account on our Freshdesk portal.


  • In your inbox, you will have an email from info@ref.ac.uk titled REF 2029 user activation
  • If you cannot find this email, please check your spam, junk and/or quarantine folders
  • Open this email
  • Click the link in the email
  • In the page that opens, your name should autofill in the Full name field, feel free to change it if you like.
  • In the password fields below, please enter, and re-enter a password (NCSC guidance on secure passwords)
  • Next, click Activate and Log In
  • You will be redirected to the REF Freshdesk portal, and your initials will appear in the top right-hand corner to confirm you are signed in
  • Please follow this guide to submit your institution's non-HESA Volume Measure data
